HACKATHON at Czech University of Life Sciences Prague 2021

07 December 2021

In the week 23.–30. November 2021, the CULS hosted a Hackathon focused on the digitization of the CULS campus.

In the week 23.–30. November 2021, the CULS hosted a Hackathon focused on the digitization of the CULS campus (member of the IQRF Alliance), primarily using the 5G network and Internet of Things (NB-IoT) technologies. The hackathon was a hybrid in terms of the form of participation of competitors who were physically present only at the start and final announcement of the winners. Everything else took place in a virtual environment.

JoTioThe entire hackathon was also monitored by the alliance partner JoTio Tech s.r.o. specializing in smart solutions using IoT resources comprehensively from HW through networks to the application layer. His observations are illustrated by the following lines.

The competition teams were provided with online professional technology lectures, such as the life sciences 4.0 data platform or 5G-IoT technology. Students also had the opportunity to consult with mentors, ie experts in various fields.

In some projects, IQRF technology was also consulted, which provides unique features that 5G and NB-IoT networks do not offer and therefore has a certain place within the smart campus.

17 two or three-member teams registered for the hackathon. 12 teams successfully completed their project and submitted it. The output of the weekly work was about 5 minutes long video and documentation, these outputs were evaluated by both the expert commission and partners, but also by the public in the form of "likes" of videos placed on social networks.

4 teams won some of the awards. The absolute winner, who won both the expert jury and the spectators, but also the main partner, was a team dealing with the idea of a smart lamp and smart lighting in general. That is, a "use case" that is well known to all alliance members. Even so, the students came up with several innovative ideas that would be interesting to further develop in the lighting segment.

More information about the event is available on the school's website.

A recording of the ceremony, including the performances of the three best teams, is available on YouTube.

Based on the perfect results of the event, JoTio agreed with the management of the IQRF Alliance to invite selected participants to the next meeting of IQRF Alliance members.
